Green A’s 1st Base Mann Ray und seine Buddies hatten gerufen – und 12 Teams kamen in den Ballpark der Babenhausen Blue Devils. Aus ganz Deutschland. Zum 1. Ciarra Memorial Tournament. Im Gedenken an Ciarra, die Tochter von Tina und Dusty, die mit 13 Jahren viel zu früh von uns gegangen ist.

Ein trauriger Hintergrund für das Tourny. Entsprechend waren die Emotionen. Bei der Eröffnungs-Zeremonie, beim First Pitch, bei der Schweigeminute, bei der Siegerehrung. Aber es waren zwei Tage mit tollen Spielen. Mit Fairness, mit Respekt für einander. Eine einzige, große Softball-Familie. Mit einer Tombola, dem Verkauf von Softball-Souvenirs und Kuchen für das Projekt zugunsten eines Waisenjungen in Nepal. Ganz im Sinne von Ciarra, die dieses Projekt mit ihren Mitschülerinnen ins Leben gerufen hatte. Und man konnte förmlich fühlen, wie sie von oben herunterschaute, lächelte und sagte „That’s The Way I Like It“.

Bevor wir’s vergessen: Es gab natürlich auch einen Sieger dieses super organisierten Tournys – die Guzzlers. Die Green A’s kamen auf Rang 5. Mainzer Dank an Joe und Alex von den Wiesbaden Eagles für die tolle Unterstützung im Outfield und auf dem Rubber, Sue aus California und Wills Sohn Peyton, an die Blue Devils für die Fields und das Catering.

Und mit Sicherheit kommen nächstes Jahr wieder alle zusammen. Vielleicht in einem anderen Ballpark. Aber mit dem selben Spirit… Stefan Fiuk

1st Annual Ciarra Rhodes Memorial Tournament

Green A’s 1st base man Ray and his buddies had called – and there came 12 teams into the ballpark of the Babenhausen Blue Devils. From entire Germany. For the 1st Ciarra Memorial Tournament. In memory of Ciarra, the daughter of Tina and Dusty, that left us with 13 years far too early.

A sad background for the tourny. So were the emotions. At the opening ceremony, at the first pitch, at the minute of silence, at the winners ceremony. But there where two days of great games. With fairness, with respect to each other. A big softball family. With a tombola, with a selling of softball souvenirs and cakes for a project, that supports an orphan boy in Nepal. Totally in the spirit of Ciarra, she founded that project together with her class mates. And you could feel her looking down from above, smiling and saying „That’s The Way I Like It“.

Before we forget it: Certainly there was a winner in that best organized tourny – the Guzzlers. The Green A’s got to place 5. Thanks from Mainz to Joe and Alex from the Wiesbaden Eagles in the outfield and on the rubber, Sue from California and to Will’s son Peyton, to the Blue Devils for the fields and the catering.

Of course next year they all will come together again. May be in another ball park. But with the same spirit… Stefan Fiuk
